September Meeting Minutes

September 18, 2016

I.     Call to order

Jen moved to called to order the regular meeting of the WRA at 7:07pm on September 18, 2017 at McKinney Lower Meeting Room.

II.     Roll call

The following persons were present: Jennifer Nagy, John Hyde, David Taite, Joanne Brind’Amour, Steve Gaull, Christy Wallace, Carrie Anderson, Rebecca Hyde, Stanton Mackellar, Chrissy Moutsatsos, Matt Ledger, Jenn Koppens, Stanton MacKellar, Cameron Lee

Absent: Lisa Tucker, Biana Novielli, Karla Xavier, Kim Cornacchia, Rolanda Morrow, Kaleigh Ionadi, Jess Nagy, Dain Andrews

  • Golf Tournament – 84 golfers, over 91 ticket sales, beautiful day, Mike Tucker mc’d
  • Lou Cornacchia won $500 off registration
  • Cleared $3800, no need for DJ next year, need more publication advertising
  • Fate of Fundscrip
  • Raising WRA cut to 25% as of Nov 1
  • Need publication push for new users with sample rebates
  • Oshawa Generals 12P night Oct 21, glory game at intermission ($21/seat)
  • Central Region aligning for fundraiser (Lisa Tucker)
  • WRA haunted trails event- Fall Fundraising event Oct 20/21
  • Nicole Menary providing props and location, raised over $3000 for Finland last year
  • Over 2 nights, $10 tickets ($5 if WRA jersey or costume), guided tours
  • Free makeup artists and volunteers
  • Need more props
  • Jersey fund
  • Mini committee meeting Sept 20 at Jen Nagy’s

III.     Publicity

  • Come Try Ringette Month
  • All equipment will be supplied for our locker, 2 registrants (no shows)
  • Entire month of September, bring a friend, all equipment supplied
  • Only 8 players showed up to CTR on Set 9, helpers out numbered guests
  • Snapped showed up for pictures and article write up
  • Come Try Ringette Event Sunday Oct 29 3:00 McKinney (if ice time not used by CORL)
  • Need 200 lawn signs (Jen Nagy), general reusable signs
  • Package from ORA for marketing provided, shipping labels to be stuck on with dates
  • Prorated fee needs to be calculated and advertised (come try, play for a month free)
  • Cheryl Gordon’s 8th Annual Outdoor Movie Night for Hunger Friday Sept 8
  • Great showing and opportunity to showcase
  • In-rink promotion (TVs)
  • Digital photo album for showcase (Melanie Thomas)

IV.     Social Media

  • Instagram needs to be more involvement and used by teams
  • “Flat Stanley” Jack and Belle mascot posts
  • Coaches and managers need to push for parent and older player involvement
  • Social media rep from each team

V.     Apparel

  • Spirit Sportwear Off ice apparel fitting night – September 19 6-9, Iroquois
  • U8 jerseys- reaching out to Trafalgar Castle (Stanton)
  • Aaron Foshay has sponsors
  • Rookie jerseys- reaching out to Trafalgar Castle (Stanton)
  • Regional Jerseys will be purchased one year, WRA property

  • Shannon Nagle ($15/player 2 indiv + team, online gallery to print selves)

VII.     Registration

  • Player movement - updated numbers
  • Rookie has 11
  • U8 has 14
  • U9 has 13
  • U10 has 11
  • U12R has 13
  • U14R has 9
  • U16R has 13
  • U19R has 11
  • Referee 21 registered

VIII.     Ice Time

  • Halloween night ($800) – RSVP to coaches
  • Boxing Day ($800) – possible family skates as per coaches

IX.     Coach Development

  • Central Courses have had enough interest to run.
  • Coaches were asked to submit bench staff lists to me so I can ensure they sign up for necessary clinics.
  • Good communication from coaches about qualifications needed so far
  • Lot's of PRC's issued.
  • NEW - Approved this weekend is the requirement for Making Head Way - this will apply to all HC/AC/CIT/ Trainers and is recommended for Trainers. Notice from ORA will be out this week. Free and easy to complete online.
  • Moving forward WRA would like to ensure we get the skills matrix completed with the U12 and below teams.  (Jen checking for focus group)
  • ORA has published better instructions on how to complete but we need times for completing.

X.     Player Development

  • player development – SORC skills & Unidus Hockey power skating went well
  • every 2nd Tuesday

XI.     Equipment

  • Blades Skate shop –willing to carry pants, already has both types of cages. (hard to find someone who carry’s the Mosspro pants which are a much heavier pant and better quality than the naomi pants being carried at Legends)
  • Goalie glove(s) needed

XII.     OCRRL

  • Over/under age Player form to be completed by Monday September 25 (Cameron)
  • Blackout dates and team declaration sent in
  • All associations having difficulty filling Regional teams (no call downs, no call ups of Provincial players)

XIII.     Central Ringette Association

  • Player intents need to be in by Jan 15, rejected Central control (Assoc runs and decides)
  • Panel will decide from intents

XIV.     Other business

  • Tournament
  • 42 teams registered to date
  • 3 out of province teams
  • water bottles for jazzy jars need to be ordered early
  • pros / cons of a summer non-sanctioned tourney event
  • non-profit to be discussed
  • sponsorship cut to WRA

XV.     Next meeting

  • October 16 at McKinney 7-9
  • November 13 at McKinney 7-9
  • December 11 at McKinney 7-9

XVI.     Adjournment

Steve moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:41, Cam 2nd .
