Whitby Ringette Association December Meeting Agenda - December 12, 2016

I. Call to order 
7pm LaserQuest. Call to order at 7:20

Roll call- The following persons were present: Marc Nagy, Jennifer Nagy, Stanton Mackellar, Cameron Lee, David Taite, Joanne Brind’Amour, Christy Wallace, Carrie Anderson, Steve Gaull, Lisa Tucker, John Hyde

II. Teams

  • Come try ringette- 3 registered already, with 2 pending still.
  • 18 showed up of varying ages up to U14.
  • Gear to paperwork to schools a couple weeks in advance.
  • Need to be more visual in rinks
  • Stanton taking CTR handout with WRA levels to printer.
  • approaching Oshawa Lady Blue Knights for promoting to Baby Blue Knights.
  • Big Sis/Lil Sis Program going really
  • Food Drive collecting until Jan 12

III. Rookie Ringette

  • Got a 6 yr old boy added
  • Games are being played, kids loving it, refs at games.

IV. Publicity

  • Christmas parade – candy canes handed 1 to a kid, not repeated
  • Truck used as float or following to carry candy canes
  • Candy canes to be stapled to card (individual bags not wrapped)
  • Adults to wear jerseys as well
  • Approach Parade sponsors for a trailer
  • Kevin Clarke is willing to help with float if approached early
  • CTR week FOLLOWING parade, not same week
  • Trafalgar Castle
  • Successful meeting last week
  • Considering sponsoring new uniforms to budget over 4 or 5 years
  • Need artwork or design, Roy’s has rights of Logo from vendor
  • 1 age group per year (200 members overall)
  • like club and sport as empowering girls, would like to form alignment/affiliation with school and WRA
  • WRA may be able to use umbrella to provide daytime ice if school has coach and transportation. Residence may be issue with surrounding associations.

V. Player Development

  • Skills sessions for coaches or players (10-12 yr olds) continuing in April
  • Power-skating/development for U8 have 10 interested possibly in Jan/Feb
  • Rookie, U8, U9 fees paid by team/WRA then reimbursed to team

VI. Coach Development

  • Coaching surveys need to be sent out to parents
  • Most teams will meet Jan 8 deadline for qualifications, without, no tournaments
  • 1 more MED session in Caledonia at end of January
  • Coaches meeting has not yet happened

VII. Ice Time

  • Blackout dates still needed for 2nd half

VIII. Website Updates

  • Has changed colour and still being updated

IX. Central Region

  • meeting is tonight
  • U16B is moving up to U19 (conversation pending)
  • U9 going into 2 tiers- upper/lower

X. Ontario Ringette Association

  • Pickering hosting A Provincials (no team),
  • Challenge Cup eliminates Oshawa, Whitby U14A won
  • 16AA goalie has joined 19A

XI. Tournament

  • Jazzy jar water bottles are available and dropped off at rink tomorrow
    • 3 bottles/player, all levels
    • $5 each
  • Vendor tables are full
  • Volunteers needed for skills (3-6 on Sat) and jazzy jars/bake sale (Friday/Sat)
  • Meeting next week for final check of roles

XII. Other business

  • Experienced refs are needed when playing Richmond Hill
  • Looking to create a recruitment board member to run CTR and Parade
  • Collect registration fees at tryouts (not player fee)
    • Intents needed/policy stating commitment to Association
    • Communication sent out at beginning of February
  • Fundraising golf tournament for the summer
  • WRA Meetings 2017
    • Next meeting: January 16 meeting at Jen’s/Baldwin Burger/1842 in Brooklin
