Whitby Ringette Association August Meeting Minutes August 22, 2016

I. Call to order

Jennifer moved to called to order the regular meeting of the WRA at 7:10pm on August 22, 2016 at Joanne’s home.

II. Roll call

The following persons were present: Marc Nagy, Jennifer Nagy, John Hyde, David Taite, Joanne Brind’Amour, Cameron Lee, Lisa Tucker, Aaron Foshay, Christy Wallace, Carrie Anderson, Stanton Mackellar, Bianca Novielli, Dain Andrews

III. Teams

  • 15 teams
  • Viability to be looked at u9/10/12 numbers, 16R needs #s, u19A will be increasing in #s
  • Reminders will be sent for fees to be paid to get on ice insurance
  • Rookie will look at “house league” games
  • U8 inquiries from parents, possibility of games with A/P, Sunderland and Oshawa later in season
  • No house league team above Rookie Ringette age

IV. Ice Time

  • Deadline to return has passed for 1st half but we can sell time.
  • Pickering is hosting Provincials, add’l ice time in Whitby
  • Matt Ledger to post icetime schedule on website and create coach email group

V. Holland Bloorview Concussion Centre Speaker- James Murphy

  • Centre

  • Concussions for under 18
  • Education, research (linked with UofT) and clinicals (baseline testing)
  • Brain movement within the skull, ‘invisible injury’
  • “when in doubt, sit them out”, 24-48 hours to appear
  • Return to Play steps for return to activity, return of symptoms goes back to step 1.
  • Priortize Plan Pace Position for Self-management tools
  • Concussion & You sessions at Holland Bloorview offered weekly, free
  • Baseline-testing

  • Neuro-cognitive testing, Preseason, validated ages 10-18, 90 minutes
  • $90+HST indiv, 2-6 ($75+HST), full team ($65+HST, offsite), recommended annually ($50 renewal)
  • No additional cost for post-injury care, covered by OHIP
  • Individual responses, not compared to general population
  • Persistent clinic available without baseline testing, and covered by OHIP
  • Adding links onto website necessary and to ORA concussion links

VI. Come Try Ringette

  • Stick Giveaway from spring CTR – to be provided and selection made.
  • Stick Giveaway for this event
  • Sat, September 10 2:15-3 pm Iroquois 4
  • Stanton will have Publicity flyers ready this week
  • Click on flyer on website to register
  • Joanne Brind’Amour will put together take-home pamphlet

VII. Equipment

  • 94 rings, 4 coach bags, few pylons, many things missing
  • $200 deposits will be needed from coaches for equipment
  • Coaches needed to contact Dain about equipment they have and need.
  • Dain needs order new jerseys for Rookie Ringette

VIII. Tournament Sponsorship

  • Update

  3. Pro Hockey Life - Tournament Assistance Program Valued at $550
  4. ETS - Yes to Monetary Donation, amount TBD
  5. Mary Noakes, ReMax - Yes to monetary donation, amount TBD
  6. Durham Sportswear - Yes to participating
  7. Fit 4 Sport - $250 Donation
  8. Chance Ring - Yes to equipment donation for skills competition
  9. Roys Enterprise - 20 cinch sacks with custom "Skills Competition" Design
  10. Skyzone - yes to $250 (would like a table to give away prizes at tournament)
  11. Scholars Choice - Will donate prizes for skills competition
  12. Hands in Demand $250 sponsor
  • Skyzone and Holland Bloorview will have booth set up
  • Receipts- treasurer will provide to sponsors as needed
  • Jen Koppens will be running Tournament

IX. Publicity

  • Cheryl Gordon’s 7th Annual Outdoor Movie Night for Hunger- Sept 9 6:30
      • Brooklin residents/ U12PP players will be asked to represent prior to movie
  • Brooklin Harvest Festival is same date at CTR, so not involved
  • Whitby Heritage is Oct 1
  • Inquiry to parents of how they found out about Whitby Ringette

X. Player Development

  • Pat Pare Power-skating clinics will Sunday nights starting Sept 18 every other week
  • Goalie clinics will be same Sunday nights- opening up to younger ages (1/3 ice)
  • Dryland training looking at options and permits at local schools

XI. Central Region

  • Meeting Monday August 29
  • Goalie crisis
  • AA programs discussed

XII. Ontario Ringette Association

  • Western Region wants to do crossover games- 16A and 14A

XIII. Rookie Ringette- follow up needed

  • Aaron will put together policy for rookie ringette helpers on ice

XIV. Motions

  • Member-at-large vote: Stanton nominated Steve Gaull, second by Jen and Dave, approved
  • Not-for-profit number has been provided from ORA (follow-up in September)

XV. Adjournment

Jennifer moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:48, Stanton 2nd .
