I wanted to
take a moment to thank the Central Region Ringette Community for attending and
supporting our benefit exhibition game last night in support of Cassandra
Labelle and her family. It is hard to
find the words to express how very moved I was by the turn-out and
support.
Our ringette community is small… and busy. How wonderful for all of you to come out and support this family!
The event was an extraordinary example of how our ringette community can come together – regardless of association borders, or team rivalry, to support one of our own. So heartwarming to see kids and families from Oshawa Ringette…. Ajax / Pickering Ringette… and of course, our home town crowd.
With an outstanding 6-0 victory for our U16AA team over Finland, the score was not the highlight of the night. $2 Door entry fees were rolling in. Over 250 people in attendance. Ringette Canada generously donated some amazing items for raffle. Raffle ticket sales flooded in. On behalf of the Whitby Ringette Association, I am thrilled to announce that we are able to contribute $1500.00 to the Labelle family fund. ($1498.10 to be exact… but I rounded up)
I am thankful for the U16AA team’s efforts in arranging the details of this event.
I would also like to recognize that Mayor Don Mitchell was in attendance and, I’m thrilled to learn, that his daughter played ringette when she was young and he coached her !! How great is it that our Mayor has such a connection to the sport we all love.
A big thank you to Ringette Canada for their wonderful donations.
I was honored and deeply touched to share in this event with all of you, and with all of our friends, neighbours, and players young and old.
Thank you for helping to make this event such an inspiring occasion.
